Sapper Anthony John Angel

Sapper Anthony John ANGEL. No. 22838716.

Sapper Angel carried out his National Service for 2 years with Royal Engineers and stayed on for an extra year. He enlisted New Year's Eve 1952 in Hampshire, probably Aldershot.  He lived in New Milton in Hampshire and came to Chatham (or Gillingham) Barracks in 1953 where he met my sister at a local dance hall.

They married in October 1954 and he was posted to Malaya in November same year. He went out on ship "Dilwarra" (with my brother who was in the Service Corps and on his way to Korea) and returned on the "Lancaster" in October 1955.

The attached photographs show him standing by a helicopter whilst in Malaya.

David Caleno, whom Sapper Angel married the sister of is pictured here by the Imjin River Korea, where he laid an aistrip for 1913 Light Liaison Flight. 1955 (Pictured second from left on the front row holding glider pilot regt. flag).

In the back of this photograph are Royal Engineers, second from left is a Royal Engineer from Medway - can anyone identify him?
